Nokia's smartphone division may have taken a battering recently due to a string of underwhelming handsets, including the N900 and N97, but the company does have a long history of producing well built, easy-to-use candybar phones like the immensely popular 6300 and the equally loveable 6700. The latest model in this dynasty is the 6303 and it looks to be a worthy successor.
For a brand renowned for deluging the marketplace with seemingly endless amounts of fast-changing TV ranges, Samsung sure is tentative about projectors. In fact, in the three years that I’ve been covering AV kit for TrustedReviews, we’ve only seen two Samsung projectors - and one of those, the SP-P400B was a little pocket-sized convenience job rather than a proper home cinema machine. But today I’m about to raise the number of Samsung projectors we’ve covered to three, as I set about the SP-A...
Epson knows a thing or two about projector technology. Late last year, it announced a 4,096 x 2,160-pixel LCD microdisplay for a new breed of super high-definition 4K2K PJs.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP8 is a credit card-sized ultra-compact point and shoot camera that packs a surprising number of features. Thanks to its size and compact nature it looks very stylish and will fit easily into your pockets as well, making it an excellent travel companion.
Last year, we did a roundup of some of the fastest laptops available at the time. The three laptops came from different sources, but all used Clevo chassis as the base for the build. Clevo is known for making high-end gaming laptop designs, but the build quality and materials can often leave us wanting. Glossy LCDs have some adherents, but the glossy—often mirror-like—surfaces used on the chassis are hard to get past. They're also very bulky designs, and it's hard to fathom spending thousands of dollars...
In recent weeks, ATI has continued to roll out its “Evergreen” Radeon HD 5 series range of DirectX 11 graphics cards. The Nvidia v. ATI rivalry that has existed in previous GPU ranges has been a non-starter with ATI able to set out its performance, mainstream and lower end segment cards without response from Nvidia. Indeed, the Fermi cards are not due to hit the markets until late March, six months on from ATI's headline act – the Radeon HD 5870.
A few months ago AMD released their new Radeon HD 5800 Series of graphics cards which quickly became a big success due to the numerous improvements made over previous generations. Up to recently all cards available from all manufacturers were reference design cards which means they were all made to the same specifications, using the same components and then a sticker was added on the cooler depending on the AIB.
MSI has done a very good job on the VGA cooler part. The Twin Frozr II is able to chill the GPU very efficiently with an extremely low noise even under heavy load! My ears are very sensitive and even a Zalman VF1000 VGA cooler is too noisy for me. But I can work without any problem near the R5770 Hawk. Nice job!
Aah, we merely released our first AMD890GX motherboard review a couple of days ago, and the new chipset is well received. But of course there are many more ODMs out there that have been preparing a new board based on the 890GX chipset from AMD.
The Nikon Coolpix S8000 lays claim to the title of the world’s slimmest 10x zoom compact. And while tech is dominated by constant chatter about “world firsts”, this nifty little number is every bit as good as its makers reckon. Want to know why? Dive into our Nikon Coolpix S8000 camera review now and we’ll reveal all.
The HTC Legend is the phone everybody is clamouring for. At the centre of a storm between Apple and the Taiwanese mobile maker, it’s arguably the best and most complete iPhone rival to land. But the question is, does this unibody Android phone sate our smartphone appetite? Or is it a case of glossy looks with very little going on upstairs? Dive into our HTC Legend review now and we’ll give you the complete verdict.
While Motorola's vanilla-Android Droid has become the most recognizable Android device on the market -- thanks in part to a bombastic ad campaign -- Motorola's primary focus has been on its own custom Blur UI. At least, if quantity of devices are any indication. Hitting Verizon just as the Blur-powered Backflip heads to AT&T, the new Motorola Devour is an odd cross section of the "consumery" Backflip and Cliq, and the high-end Droid slider. We've been playing with the phone for a week or so (you can find our in...
With the PowerShot A3100, it's fair to say Canon has the entire spectrum of compact cameras covered. From the excellent - and very cheap - Canon A490, all the way up to the top-end Canon G11, anyone in the market for a new compact camera will be able to find something they like.
Blu-ray is far from a ubiquitous feature on laptops, but even Toshiba has finally realised that any 'multimedia' laptop should have it as standard. Acer has long offered it in its range and the Acer Aspire 5942G (524G64Bn), a 15.6in desktop replacement machine, is its latest effort. It also packs one of Intel's new mobile Core i5 processors which, among other things, gives it a hefty £940 online asking price.
What did M17x say to M15x- “Honey, I’ve shrunk the kids.” Bad jokes aside, M11x is Alienware’s new baby laptop and it certainly looks like it will be a worthy successor to the family. I saw it first at TechEd in Dubai last week and instantly fell in love. Luckily Dell had one available for review and I picked it up the very next day. In a nutshell, the M11x looks and behaves exactly like you’d expect an Alienware laptop to- except that its really tiny in size. Think of it as a netbook ...
Having already looked at the HD 5830 in reference form, it was time to see what our retail card could do when combined with the reference model we've already looked at. Over the past few months and clearly the past few releases, we've had a look at all the models in Crossfire and have been extremely happy with the performance boost that the setups gave us.
A key benefit of almost every INTEL P55/P55A motherboard that we’ve reviewed is the overclocking capability. Chances are you can walk into your favourite computer store and locate several capable INTEL P55 boards capable of unlocking the potential of that stock CPU. How much potential depends on how much you want to spend and what expansion features you want.
Describing Intel’s H55 chipset as a low-cost choice for your next motherboard is as true as it is false. On the one hand, there are the display outputs for the integrated GPU of a Clarkdale Core i3 or Core i5 CPU, but these inclusions cost the manufacturer (and therefore, the consumer) money.
AMD has been on a bit of a roll lately, particularly with the Radeon 5000 series graphics cards, courtesy of their ATI branch. Further, the Athlon II and Phenom II processors have been solid competitors in the computing value market. But things have largely been quiet on their chipset front, as the aging 790FX and 785G refresh haven't provided much in terms of innovation that we've seen elsewhere.
Intel's X58 motherboard chipset and LGA 1366 Socket may rule the roost in terms of its literal performance and functionality, but for the majority of users (and even enthusiasts) these days the company's mainstream P55 motherboard platform and Socket LGA 1156 series of parts offers more than enough in terms of performance, functionality and overclocking.
